The Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol fight is planned to be held three months after Ramadan according to promoter Bob Arum. The duel between the two undefeated light heavyweight champions is highly anticipated by world boxing fans.
The duel, which brings together the two best boxers in this sport, will most likely take place in the second half of this year, in Saudi Arabia. Bob Arum will begin discussions with Saudi Arabian sports authorities to work out the details of the fight.
“It’s not finished yet. But of course we want to do it. I will talk to my friend His Highness Turki Alalshikh. I know he wants to do it, but Ramadan is coming soon. So, about three months after Ramadan ends, we will be ready to fight Dmitry Bivol, maybe in Riyadh,” said Arum.
For the WBC, WBO, IBF light heavyweight titles, Artur Beterbiev continued his knockout victory by stopping Callum Smith (29-2, 21 KOs) in seven rounds. Smith, the WBC mandatory challenger, tried his best but was unable to deal with Beterbiev’s dangerous punching power. After several rounds of receiving blows, the seventh round finally ended.
A barrage of punches knocked Smith down for the first time in his professional career. Smith managed to beat the count, but another attack knocked him down a second time.
Smith’s trainer, Buddy McGirt, had seen enough and entered the ring to end the fight. After the fight, Beterbiev’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, expressed their desire to complete an undisputed fight against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
Bivol was in action last month in Riyadh, as part of the major ‘Day of Reckoning’ event. He dominated the British challenger, Lyndon Arthur, for twelve rounds. In a recent interview, Bivol stated that he has signed an agreement for an undisputed fight with Beterbiev.
