Suara.com – Lately, many women have relied on acne patches to help deflate inflamed acne. In fact, the trend of using acne patches is also carried out by teenagers.
Because it has become a trend, quite a few of them are no longer shy about showing their faces covered in acne patches.
Acne patches are considered to help improve your appearance because they cover acne. Moreover, acne patches have various unique shapes so they look cute when worn.
But on the other hand, the use of this acne patch is also a question. The reason is, it is feared that using acne patches will actually make acne even more inflamed. So what is the truth?
Dermatologist Dr. Fitria Agustina, Sp.KK, FINSDV revealed that using acne patches is not a problem. This is because the content in the acne patch is hydrocolloid which is good for compressing acne.
“There’s no problem using acne patches, because I also like using them. What we actually use is hydrocolloid. The hydrocolloid from the patch is actually very good for dressings. “Well, the dressing is for compression,” said Dr Fitria at the La Roche Posay DermLive Event 2024, Saturday (13/1/2024).
According to him, this acne patch helps inflamed acne to disappear thanks to the hydrocolloid content in it.
“So when the acne is inflamed, using hydrocolloid is very helpful,” he continued.
However, what you need to remember is that some acne patches are sometimes combined with various other ingredients, such as tea tree or salicylic acid. This can cause the risk of irritation of acne.
“Well, in current conditions, hydrocolloids are often mixed with ingredients that are used for acne treatment, for example combined with tea tree, combined with salicylic acid. “But everyone has to be careful, because hydrocolloid acne patches are mixed with tea tree or salicylic acid, of course there is a risk of irritant contact dermatitis,” explained Dr. Fitria.
So, when using an acne patch, make sure we look at the ingredients in it. If the content is only hydrocolloid without other ingredients, then there is no problem. However, if there are other mixed ingredients, it could cause problems.
“Because the irritation is not due to the hydro patch, but to the active ingredients included in the hydrocolloid patch. “So you can see from the ingredients whether it is really plain hydrocolloid or whether there are additional ingredients such as tea tree or others, so be careful,” he concluded.
