Senior artist Mpok Atiek is reported to be suffering from a benign tumor in the intestine. He only discovered this disease in June 2023.
In the screening of FYP Trans 7, he talked about the early symptoms he felt.
“At that time it was June, my stomach was feeling uncomfortable every day. Then, sorry, my bowel movements didn’t go smoothly, it could have been 3 days, it could have been 4 days. Sorry, my bowel movements were always plugged from behind. Finally, I checked with an internist. Long story short, the internist doctor “He was referred to gastro and had to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy. There were a lot of polyps (benign tumors) in the intestine,” said Mpok Atiek.
“All of them (small polyps in the intestine) have been taken out. There is one big one like a meatball and it has already taken root, but they say it is benign, but it is approaching malignant. So before it becomes malignant, it has to be removed through the stomach,” he continued.
However, to carry out surgery as recommended by the doctor to remove the large tumor, this 67 year old comedian was still afraid. This is because his mother died after surgery for colon cancer.
“But I was afraid, because my mother (Mpok Atiek’s mother) died after having surgery on her stomach, and then she died of colon cancer,” he said.
As an option, he is currently choosing alternative treatment, because he was traumatized by his mother who died previously.

In Mpok Atiek’s case, a small polyp (benign tumor) in his intestine was removed. However, there was one that was as large as a meatball that had roots. It was categorized as benign but was said to be on the verge of becoming malignant or cancerous if not removed immediately.
According to Medical News Today, this disease often does not cause symptoms at first. However, as the disease progresses, symptoms may begin to be felt.
Polyps are not cancerous, but cancer can start from some types of polyps. If a person has a type of non-cancerous polyp called adenomatous polyp, they have an increased risk of colon cancer.
Cancer cells can spread from malignant tumors to other parts of the body through the blood system and lymph nodes.
These cancer cells can grow and attack healthy tissue around and throughout the body in a process called metastasis. The result is a condition that is more serious and difficult to treat.
