JAKARTA – The presence of robots makes everything easier for humanity. For coffee lovers, the presence of robot baristas is certainly good news. Not only is this robot barista good at mixing coffee like other baristas, it is also able to mix various other types of drinks such as boba tea, coffee, iced lattes, iced tea and even cocktails.
This robot barista named ADAM has demonstrated its unique capabilities at the global technology exhibition CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
Reporting from Metro, Friday (12/1/2024), ADAM is priced at £140,000 or around IDR 2.7 billion. At first glance, this price is quite expensive for the middle class, but commensurate with the capabilities and service. Moreover, now ADAM has new skills, namely being able to chat with customers and joke, thanks to generative artificial intelligence (AI).
Of course, ADAM was not designed to be sold to individuals, but rather to coffee shops or bars. Created by Richtech Robotics, ADAM can also take orders and make a variety of drinks. Most importantly, he never gets tired. “He’s a robot barista, but he can make a lot of different drinks,” said Phil Zheng, chief operating officer of Richtech Robotics.
There is more. Apart from making coffee and drinks, ADAM can also prepare food. To do this, ADAM uses a combination of robotic arms, artificial intelligence, cameras and facial recognition software. “This is a dual-arm robot. It has an AI camera on the front for vision and also depth detection,” said Zheng.
This entire system, he said, is powered by an internal power supply inside the robot’s body. “ADAM is designed to be a robot that can produce and manufacture food, not just help clean or deliver, but actually become a business itself,” he added.
ADAM’s ability to make coffee, drinks, food and interact with customers was recognized by one CES 2024 visitor. “It’s great,” said Jon Gregory, a 37-year-old technology enthusiast from Baltimore. “This is a hazelnut latte. Robots make it themselves. It feels good. Very bubbly, very cool. Very good.”
Arun Prasad, a 38-year-old technology enthusiast from Detroit, added, “I think it’s fantastic. I don’t think there is any difference to what a human would do. It feels exactly the same. But I think this coffee is fantastic.”
But before baristas around the world panic, there is one more important fact to know. That is, ADAM still needs humans to replenish its coffee and milk supplies.
