Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan’s steps were stopped in the round of 16 of the Malaysia Open 2024. Hendra was the reason why Ahsan was unable to continue the match in the second game.
Ahsan/Hendra stopped after putting up fierce resistance against Chinese representatives, He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu. They surrendered in the second game with a score of 17-21, 7-15 at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday (11/1/2024).
Hendra revealed that Ahsan’s condition was not good because he had a hip injury. Hendra admitted that his tandem injury was only felt when the match entered the second game.
“Ahsan’s condition is indeed injured in the waist, but clearly I don’t know whether the injury is new or old, which definitely started to be felt in the second game,” said Hendra in an official PBSI release, Thursday (11/1/2024).
Thus, Ahsan had to undergo further medical treatment to find out the main cause of his injury. Apart from that, Hendra said the Chinese men’s doubles played solidly in that match.
“From today’s game, the opponents played fast and tight. The pressure was also quite strong, so we were under pressure first,” said Hendra.
Meanwhile, Ahsan’s injury is certainly worrying considering that The Daddies – Ahsan/Hendra’s nickname – will still be playing again in the near future. They will compete in the India Open which will be held on 16 – 21 January 2024.
In that tournament, Ahsan/Hendra have been registered and will face Taiwan’s representatives, Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin. It is hoped that The Daddies can recover and get the best results at the 2024 India Open.
