DEN HAAG – The trial of the Gaza genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague began to be held today (11/1/2024).
As the trial of the genocide case prepares to be held, a number of countries have taken varying positions between supporting and opposing the lawsuit.
This occurs as the terrible war between Israel and Hamas continues in Gaza, Palestine.
On December 29, South Africa asked the ICJ to issue an urgent order declaring that Israel violated its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention in its attack on Gaza, the besieged Palestinian territory.
In the 84-page lawsuit, South Africa cited a sustained bombing campaign that has destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, displaced some 1.9 million Palestinians and killed more than 23,000 people.
This also shows Israel’s failure to open access for important food, water, medicine, fuel and other humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.
Israeli officials such as President Isaac Herzog have criticized the genocide case filed by South Africa as “appalling.”
The Zionist regime plans to claim that its brutal war in Gaza is justified by international law on grounds of “self-defense”.
