Suara.com – Chairman of the Indonesian General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja so that presidential candidates (candidates) do not insult each other. According to him, this can be punished as stated in Law Number 7 of 2017 (Election Law).
“About insulting, right? You can be charged. If you insult, you can,” said Bagja, quoted from Antara, January 10 2024.
Meanwhile, Article 280 paragraph (1) letter c of the Election Law regulates that election organizers, participants and campaign teams are prohibited from insulting any person, religion, ethnicity, race, class, candidate and/or other election participants.
It is suspected that this statement was related to what presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto said when he gave a speech to his volunteers in Pekanbaru, Riau, Tuesday (9/1).
Prabowo is suspected of bringing up a statement by another presidential candidate that touched on his land ownership during the third presidential debate held by the KPU on Sunday (7/1) evening.
In his statement, Prabowo allegedly used curse words. However, he did not mention the name of the presidential candidate in question.
Until now, the KPU itself has not received the report and will examine it if there are any findings.
“If there is a report, findings. Later we will see first, what the context is, and targeting whom. If the sanctions must be firm, target whom. The examination must be firm, targeting whom; and that is a part that cannot be separated,” he said.
“But, you have to check first, if that’s the intention, that will be a problem. Let’s see first, OK, let’s check first,” said Bagja.
