Persija Jakarta’s journey in 2023 will be less fortunate. Coach Thomas Doll said that the Kemayoran Tigers had experienced a lot of bad luck.
What stands out most is that Persija achieved many draws in League 1 this season. It is recorded that of the 23 matches played, the Kemayoran Tigers achieved 11 draws.
This number makes Persija listed as the team that has achieved the most draws in Liga 1 2023/2024. Unlike last season, which was able to appear more fierce, this season Persija has lost its teeth and often shares points at home.
Luckily, in the closing match of 2023, Persija managed to win over PSS Sleman. “We wasted a lot of points when we should have been able to get full points. After experiencing many draws this season, I am relieved that we were able to close the year with three points,” said Thomas Doll, quoted from the official Persija Jakarta website, Sunday (31/12 /2023).
Apart from the 11 draws they obtained, Persija also experienced other misfortunes such as the injury to Gustavo Almeida in his debut match. The player who was borrowed from Arema FC is expected to be a solution for the Kemayoran Tigers’ front line.
“The team experienced a lot of bad luck, for example Gustavo (Almeida) who was injured even though he had only played for a short time,” said Thomas Doll.
Nevertheless, Thomas Doll said that he was still satisfied because in the 23rd week of the match he was able to win at home over PSS Sleman. He said the sweet results were proof that his team really performed optimally.
“But seeing the mentality shown by the players in the last match, I am quite happy. Because it means they are really fighting for the three points,” he added.
For your information, Persija currently sits in 9th place in the standings with a collection of 32 points. The Kemayoran Tigers will start their journey next year by facing a tough opponent, Borneo FC, at the Batakan Stadium, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, 6 February 2024, at 19.00 WIB.
