Naoya Inoue or Terence Crawford the best boxer 2023? Terence Crawford claims to be the Best Boxer of 2023 and feels better than Devin Haney or Naoya Inoue.
In a recent post on his social media, Terence Crawford from Omaha, Nebraska, gave full support to himself as the fighter of the year. He stated that his ninth round knockout win over Errol Spence Jr. a dominant one, which is his only fight in 2023, should be enough to guarantee him the spot.
What many expected to be a competitive fight quickly turned into a rout, with Crawford hitting and knocking Spence down multiple times before the referee stopped the fight. This victory makes Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) the undisputed champion in the 66.6 kilogram division. Terence Crawford achieved this feat previously as a junior welterweight boxer.
“I am the only fighter to beat a top five pound for pound fighter this year and the way I beat him is unmatched,” Crawford wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Fighter of the Year 2023 is me. Some people may say that I only fought 1 fight, but that 1 fight was bigger than the others. #Facts”
Boxing fans and pundits have debated who deserves this annual award, which is given annually by various media outlets at this time. Many felt that Naoya Inoue, the Japanese dynamo, deserved to be recognized as last year’s boxer of the year, especially because, unlike Crawford, he fought twice.
Naoya Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs) stopped Marlon Tapales earlier this week in Tokyo to unify all four belts in the 122-pound division; earlier this year, Inoue knocked out then-champion Stephen Fulton to unify the three belts. This fearsome boxer unified the 118 pound division last year. Like Crawford, Inoue is now undisputed in both divisions.
