Suara.com – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri said 14 people were injured as a result of the chaos that occurred in the middle of the mass procession carrying the body of former Papua Governor Lukas Enembe in Jayapura, Thursday (28/12/2023).
Mathius explained that of the 14 injured victims, one of them was the Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rudalamun. Meanwhile, the other eight are police officers and five residents.
“There were 14 injured victims, including the Acting Governor of Papua Province Dr. Muhammad Ridwan Rudalamun, 8 security officers and 5 members of the public,” Mathius told reporters, Friday (28/12/2023).
Apart from that, Mathius said that the crowd also set fire to a car. Then it damaged three buildings and 25 houses.
“1 car was burned, 5 vehicles were badly damaged, 3 buildings and around 25 housing complexes were damaged and burned,” he said.
Until now, the police are still recording the value of losses due to the riots that occurred. Meanwhile, regarding the condition of the Acting Governor of Papua, according to Mathius, he has improved even though he must continue to undergo further treatment.

“This moment should show children’s love for their parents, and I really regret that an incident like this should not have happened,” said Mathius.
Mathius also confirmed that his party would provide security until Lukas Enembe’s funeral process was complete. At the same time reminding the migrant community not to take action that triggers chaos.
“We provide tolerance during the delivery of the body, but if there is further action after the funeral, we will not hesitate to take firm action,” he concluded.
