ANTALYA – Physical Coach for the Indonesian National Team, Shin Sang-gyu, continues to intensively carry out physical strengthening training to ensure his players are in optimal condition ahead of the 2023 Asian Cup.
As part of the preparations for this prestigious tournament, the Garuda Squad, nicknamed the Indonesian National Team, is in Turkey, in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam. This tournament is scheduled to take place from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
On Tuesday (26/12/2023), Shin Sang-gyu explained that his team was focusing on strengthening their physique through training at the Titanic Deluxe Golf Hotel Belek fitness center, Antalya, Turkey. The workouts at this fitness center are divided into several parts, with an emphasis on strengthening the player’s small muscles.
“One of the aspects we focus on is strengthening small muscles. Even though time is limited, we try to maximize it to achieve optimal results,” said Shin Sang-gyu as reported on the official PSSI website.
“In this short period, it may be difficult to improve endurance directly, but the development of small muscles will have a positive impact on the player’s stamina,” he added.
The 39 year old coach emphasized that this physical strengthening program will have a positive impact on players, considering the high physical demands in competitions like the Asian Cup.
“In the current condition of stamina, physical strengthening is very important. Even though the players have good potential, that’s why we continue to train at the fitness center,” he explained.
Apart from physical training, the Indonesian National Team is also scheduled to take part in trial matches while in Turkey before leaving for Qatar. The tests are scheduled against Libya on January 2 and 5 2024, as part of comprehensive preparations for the 2023 Asian Cup.
