Suara.com – The Ganjar-Mahfud National Winning Team (TPN) has sent a written objection note to the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), regarding Vice Presidential Candidate number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka who is considered to have asked a trick question during the debate.
They hope that there will be no more trick questions in the 2024 presidential election debate.
This was conveyed by Political Deputy 5.0 TPN Ganjar-Mahfud, Andi Widjajanto at the Ganjar-Mahfud Media Center, Central Newsdelivers.com, Wednesday (27/12/2023).
Andi said that his party objected to the moment in the 2024 presidential election vice presidential debate where vice presidential candidate number 2 Gibran was highlighted for asking trick questions and talking outside the theme.
“We have conveyed this in writing. Our evaluation is regarding the second debate, including the use of abbreviations, including when Mas Gibran asked off-topic questions,” said Andi.
According to him, the KPU will discuss this matter in the third debate preparation meeting today.
On the other hand, Andi said that his party was trying to ensure that during the next debate the candidate candidates who were debating could ask questions that were as clear as possible and not tricky.
“For us, when Mas Gibran asked for an abbreviation that Cak Imin didn’t understand and the Moderator immediately interrupted, he didn’t give Mas Gibran the opportunity to explain the meaning of the abbreviation, the public was at a disadvantage because they lost an important substance regarding sharia economics,” he said.
“That’s what we are trying to overcome, so that debates 3, 4 and 5 encourage the KPU to ensure that candidate candidates in the debate ask clear questions without the intention of further highlighting the candidates’ ignorance,” he continued.
KPU statement
Previously, General Election Commission (KPU) member August Mellaz admitted that the question of vice presidential candidate (cawapres) number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who used the abbreviation SGIE to refer to the State of Global Islamic Economy during the vice presidential debate, was indeed discussed in the KPU evaluation meeting with the teams of the three pairs. presidential and vice presidential candidates.
In principle, Mellaz explained that the KPU had briefed the panelists to provide clear questions, including when using abbreviations.
However, if the question is asked by the vice presidential candidate, Mellaz said it is the responsibility of the Liaison Officer (LO) or accompanying person for each presidential and vice presidential candidate pair.
“For example, abbreviations, in principle of course this is part of the LO’s duties to conduct briefings on their respective candidate pairs,” said Mellaz at the KPU Office, Central Newsdelivers.com, Wednesday (27/12/2023).

“That has been discussed and it has become a kind of mutual understanding and we recorded it in the minutes of the meeting, we will take several things later as a decision,” he added.
According to him, the LO of each candidate pair has the responsibility to provide direction to the presidential and vice presidential candidates so that they can ask clear questions, including the use of foreign terms or abbreviations.
“Of course, like it or not, the job of the candidate pair’s LO is to brief the presidential or vice-presidential candidates during the debate so that the abbreviation can be lengthened,” said Mellaz.
He said that if this type of question was still used by the presidential and vice presidential candidates, Mellaz explained that the moderator had room to clarify questions without taking up the time of one of the presidential and vice presidential candidates.
