PALESTINE – The Sniper Ghoul is a dangerous weapon which is claimed to be made by the Al Qassam Brigades, a right-wing Hamas force which is very feared by Israel.
On Wednesday (20/12), the Al Qassam Brigades released a video about the production process of the “Ghoul” anti-material sniper rifle. Including small firearms to long-range artillery rockets. The recording sent the internet into a frenzy.
Because, previously, many western media doubted that the Ghoul sniper did not belong to Hamas and that Hamas did not have the ability to produce its own weapons. The Ghoul Sniper is often compared to the Austrian Steyr HS.50 anti-material sniper rifle.
This is also the first time that the Al Qassam Brigades has revealed in detail the production process of the Ghoul sniper, which is named after Adnan Al Ghoul, a senior al Qassam official who was killed by Israel in 2004.
Advantages of Sniper Ghoul for the Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigade:
1. Relatively cheap production costs: Compared to high-end sniper rifles made in the West, which can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, it is estimated that the production costs of the Ghoul are more affordable. This is important for Hamas which has limited access to technology and resources.
2. Production independence: Ghoul production is carried out locally by Hamas, reducing their dependence on weapons imports from other countries. This increases independence and reduces the risk of arms embargoes.
3. Symbol of resistance: The use of homemade weapons is often used as a symbol of resistance and independence by militant groups. The ghoul can serve as a symbol of Hamas’ determination and capability in confronting Israel.
Sniper Ghoul technical advantages (compared to class sniper rifles):
1. Effective shooting range: The effective shooting range of 2 km is quite good for a domestically made sniper rifle.
2. Ammunition power: The 14.5mm caliber is quite large and powerful, having the potential to penetrate light armored vehicles.
3. Environmental adaptation: This rifle was modified to suit the climate and terrain in Palestine.
However, it’s also worth noting some of Ghoul’s potential weaknesses:
1. Accuracy: Claimed accuracy (1 MOA) has not been independently verified and may not be on par with high-end Western sniper rifles.
2. Material quality: The quality of materials and components may not be as good as sniper rifles made by well-known manufacturers, potentially affecting long-term durability and performance.
3. Technology: Ghoul likely uses less advanced technology than current sniper rifles, so it may fall short in features and long-range accuracy.
