How CAPTCHA Differentiates Between Robots and Humans. PHOTO/ IFL
LONDON – CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a security system used to differentiate between humans and robots.
As reported by IFL Science, Monday (25/12/2023), CAPTCHA works by providing questions or tasks that are difficult for robots to answer or complete, but easy for humans to answer or complete.
There are several different types of CAPTCHAs, but in general, CAPTCHAs work in the following way:
1. Text CAPTCHA: This type of CAPTCHA displays a distorted arrangement of text, numbers, or symbols. Users are asked to type the text again correctly. Robots usually have difficulty retyping distorted text, because they cannot understand the context of the text.
2. Image CAPTCHA: This type of CAPTCHA displays an image consisting of several objects. Users are asked to select specific objects from the image. Robots usually have difficulty selecting the right object from an image, because they cannot understand the context of the image.
Puzzle CAPTCHA: This type of CAPTCHA presents a puzzle that the user must solve. Robots usually have difficulty solving puzzles, because they cannot understand how the puzzle works.
3. Apart from that, CAPTCHA can also use other techniques to differentiate between humans and robots, such as:
Mouse movement analysis: CAPTCHA can analyze a user’s mouse movements to determine whether the user is a human or a robot. Robots usually cannot imitate the irregular movements of a human mouse.
Reaction time analysis: CAPTCHA can measure a user’s reaction time to determine whether the user is a human or a robot. Robots usually have faster reaction times than humans.
