JAKARTA – Shin Tae-yong has set a target to bring the Indonesian National Team into the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup. So, if this fails, what will happen to the future of the South Korean coach?
Tommy Welly, as a football observer in Indonesia, firmly stated that PSSI must have the courage to make a decision regarding Shin Tae-yong’s future if the Indonesian National Team fails to meet its target in the 2023 Asian Cup. He added that PSSI does not need to waste any more time evaluating the 53 year old coach. .
Bung Towel said that Shin Tae-yong really had to be able to prove that the Indonesian National Team’s level actually existed on the Asian stage. If he can’t bring the Garuda Squad up to another level, according to him PSSI doesn’t need to wait any longer.
“He has said that we (the Indonesian national team) are at Asian level. But we lost 1-5 to Iraq. Then if in the Asian Cup, as you said earlier, if we fail and don’t show the right performance against Iraq, Vietnam and Japan, what are PSSI waiting for? again,” said Bung Towel at the PSSI Press Downs and Downs Discussion event, Friday (22/12/2023).
“There’s no need to waste time. Time has been given, equipment has been given, facilities have been given, naturalization has been given. PSSI must evaluate, review and make a decision (for Shin Tae-yong),” said Bung Towel
Currently the Indonesian National Team is undergoing TC in Turkey which is scheduled to end on January 6 2024. This is done so that the Garuda Squad can achieve the best results in the 2023 Asian Cup.
During TC, the Indonesian National Team will play two trial matches. The plan is that the Garuda Squad will play against Libya in Antalya, Turkey on January 2 and 5 2024. Then against Iran on January 9 in Qatar.
