Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of Muhammad Ali, scored his ninth win after defeating Noel Lafargue via split decision. Nico Ali Walsh grandson of Muhammad Ali won in a fight on Saturday night at the Palais Du Peuple, Conakry, Guinea.
One judge scored it 58-56 for Lafargue, while the other two judges scored it 60-54 and 58-56 for Walsh, which brought his record to 9-1, 1 NC, 5 KOs. Both had their moments, but Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh was the more effective fighter and outmatched Lafargue, in terms of who landed the harder punches.
The win over Lafargue came less than three months after Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh lost via majority decision to Sona Akale, who beat him in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On May 20, which took place in his hometown, Las Vegas, Walsh fought to a split decision draw against Danny Rosenberger.
More than three months after the fight against Rosenberger, the Nevada Athletic Commission ruled the fight a no contest after random drug tests showed elevated testosterone levels in a sample provided by Rosenberger.
Nico Ali Walsh, a 23-year-old middleweight fighter, has fought under the Top Rank banner since making his professional debut in August 2021. Muhammad Ali fought and stopped George Foreman in October 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaire, which is now known as Democratic Republic of the Congo. Walsh is Ali’s grandson.
“This is a great developmental fight for Nico against a tough opponent,” Evan Korn, a publicist and matchmaker at Top Rank, told BoxingScene. “In addition, the people of Guinea welcomed Nico and his family. It was an unforgettable experience,” he continued.
Lafargue, who lives in Morcenx, France, has a record of 9-3-1, 3 KOs. This 34 year old boxer was undefeated in three fights before facing Nico Ali Walsh.
