MOSCOW – The Russian Navy (VMF) received the new warship Frigate Admiral Golovko from project 22350 which is equipped with the flagship Kalibr-NK cruise missile weapon. The Admiral Golovko frigate was built at the Severnaya Verf shipyard and will be delivered to the Russian Navy on December 25.
Information about the delivery of the new frigate to the Russian Navy was reported by the Russian news agency TASS from unofficial sources. “The handover of the Admiral Golovko frigate is the third ship in the project 22350 series built at the Northern Shipyard,” wrote TASS, quoted by SINDOnews, Tuesday (19/12/2023).
On November 23, 2023, as quoted by TASS from a confidential source in the military industry, it was reported that the frigate Admiral Golovko had returned to the Baltic to carry out inspections, after completing trials. One of the aims of the trial was to carry out shooting at the fleet’s combat training ground in the Barents Sea.
The Admiral Golovko frigate is an important ship in the Admiral Gorshkov class of frigates that operates using domestic power plants. This marks a shift away from using electric power imported from Ukraine. This masterpiece of engineering is a proud asset of the Russian Navy.
The Admiral Gorshkov class has its lineage from the Neustrashimy and Krivak class frigates. However, the design of these modern ships has undergone significant improvements by using multi-purpose power plants.
Designed for a wide range of operations, from conducting long-range attacks and fighting submarine warfare to conducting escort missions. The frigate Admiral Golovko excels in versatility and military prowess.
The Admiral Gorshkov class frigate is about 135 meters long and about 16 meters wide. The Admiral Gorshkov class frigates are powered by a combined gas turbine and diesel propulsion system (CODAG).
This frigate has a top speed of around 29 knots or around 54 kilometers per hour. The range of the Admiral Gorshkov class frigates is estimated to be around 4,000 nautical miles or around 7,400 kilometers.
