Jermall Charlo Defeats Jose Benavidez Jr., Caleb Plant: Not Spectacular/Boxing Scene
Jermall Charlo defeated Jose Benavidez Jr. The former super middleweight champion, Caleb Plant, responded normally. After two and a half years outside the ring, Jermall Charlo believes he is mentally and physically ready to return to action.
Jermall Charlo was given a relatively gentle touch to ease his return into the match. Jose Benavidez Jr, who started his career weighing 63.5 kilograms, did his best to score the win. However, with Charlo being naturally bigger and stronger, he breezed easily to a unanimous decision victory.
By all accounts, Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) was very pleased with his performance. Now, he looked forward. With the Houston boxer hoping to get a bigger fight, Caleb Plant is currently waiting for the call.
As Plant continues to play his waiting game, he reflects on Charlo’s journey. While most people heap praise on the 33-year-old boxer, Plant isn’t sure it’s deserved. “It wasn’t anything spectacular,” Plant said in an interview with Fight Hub TV. “He was in there against a smaller guy. It’s not like I was that impressed.”
A few months ago, Charlo and Plant got into an argument backstage. Although the details are a bit hazy, much of the video captures Plant slapping Charlo in the face. Since their troubles, Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) has made it clear that he wants to share the ring with Charlo next.
According to the former IBF super middleweight champion, a win over Charlo would be more than enough for him to earn a rematch with David Benavidez. It’s no surprise that Plant isn’t a fan of Charlo. He considered him dishonest and a person full of falsehood.
However, Plant admitted that he is rooting for Charlo to return to winning ways. Now that he had done so, he was sure that nothing would get in the way of their fight. “I’m happy he won. That’s what I wanted to win, so we can make this fight happen.”
