The cause of the death of senior actor Matthew Perry has finally been revealed.
Based on a report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, the Friends series actor died due to the acute effects of ketamine. This caused Matthew to drown and die.
On Friday (15/12), the autopsy results stated that Matthew’s body tested positive for high amounts of ketamine which was used to treat his depression and anxiety.
According to the Associated Press, the amount of ketamine found in the actor’s body was enough to make him lose consciousness so that Matthew was unable to maintain himself while soaking in the jacuzzi.
“Using sedatives in a swimming pool or hot tub, especially when you are alone, is very risky and, unfortunately, fatal,” said Doctor Andrew Stolbach, a medical toxicologist at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The report also stated Matthew died from drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine.
It is known that the character who played Chandler Bing was undergoing treatment to treat depression and anxiety before he died.
Matthew Perry was found unconscious in the jacuzzi of his home in the Pacific Palisades area, Los Angeles last October.
At that time he was thought to have died after consuming drugs. However, the autopsy results stated that he was free from drugs.
“Reportedly clean for 19 months,” wrote the report.

This was reinforced by Jennifer Aniston’s confession, Matthew’s friend. The actress said Matthew had been very happy over the last few months. Aniston also sent a message the morning before Matthew died.
“I sent him a message that morning, cute Matty. He’s not in pain. He’s happy. He’s healthy. He’s stopped smoking, he’s getting fit,” said Jennifer Aniston.
