MECHELEN – Indonesian national team defender, Sandy Walsh appeared for 90 minutes with Belgian club, KV Mechelen. In fact, he was saved by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) which prevented his team from losing.
KV Mechelen played a goalless draw with Club Brugge in the 17th match of the Jupiler Pro League 2023/2024, the highest caste of the Belgian League. The match which took place at the Achter de Kazerne Stadium last weekend was marred by two controversies which made Club Brugge appear to not accept the referee’s decision.
In the 14th minute, Club Brugge managed to score a goal through Hans Vanaken after escaping from Sandy Walsh’s control. However, the referee annulled the goal after VAR showed that the ball given by Casper Nielsen had left the field first.
Then in the 73rd minute, Club Brugge scored another goal through Igor Thiago’s header, after managing to escape from Sandy Walsh’s guard. However, the linesman raised the flag and judged that Igor Thiago was in an offside position.
After two goals were disallowed by the referee, the Club Brugge players seemed disappointed with the decision. As a result, both teams had to settle for sharing one point.
The draw made Club Brugge occupy sixth place in the standings with 27 points. Meanwhile, KV Mechelen is in 10th place with 19 points.
Meanwhile, for the third time in a row, Sandy Walsh got the opportunity to appear in full with KV Mechelen. Previously, he had suffered an injury and reduced his playing minutes.
