Suara.com – Indonesia’s path to advancing to host the 2025 U-20 World Cup turns out to be interference from FIFA. Because, Gianni Infantino as president of the federation also wants it.
Chairman of PSSI and Chairman of the Indonesian U-17 World Cup Committee, Erick Thohir, was delighted with the success of holding the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
After the 2023 U-17 World Cup went smoothly, PSSI is now targeting Indonesia to host the 2025 U-20 World Cup.
Not alone, Indonesia plans to collaborate with Singapore in this nomination.
“Thanks to this success (holding the U-17 World Cup), the opportunity to nominate to host the U-20 World Cup in 2025 and the 2025-2029 U17 World Cup is wide open,” said Erick Thohir.
“And God willing, we will try to nominate together with Singapore,” he added.
However, who would have thought that Indonesia’s wish would involve interference from FIFA. Gianni Infantino asked that Indonesia, which successfully held the 2023 U-17 World Cup, also come forward in the nomination.
“What I know is that this was one of the requests from the FIFA president because he saw the success of the U-17s. We saw that it was strategic enough to embrace Singapore,” said Dito, quoted from the Instagram account @goalmedia.co.
Meanwhile, Indonesia was actually chosen by FIFA to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup. However, at that time it was canceled due to calls for rejection of Israel, which coincidentally also passed.
FIFA then gave the ‘gift’ of hosting the 2023 U-17 World Cup instead and it has been carried out very well by Indonesia.
Now by advancing with Singapore, it is hoped that when Indonesia is selected to host the U-20 World Cup 2025, the issue of Israel will no longer be a problem.
