GUWAHATI – Indonesian men’s singles badminton player, Yohanes Saut Marcellyno, made a brilliant comeback against Singapore’s representative, Jia Heng Jason Teh in the quarter-finals of the Guwahati Masters 2023. Through a 68-minute rubber game, he won with a score of 20-22, 21-18 and 21-15.
This victory took Yohanes to the semifinals of the Super 100 badminton tournament. Next, he will face Cheam June Wei from Malaysia.
Competing at the Saru Sajai Indoor Sports Complex, Guwahati, India, Friday (8/12/2023) afternoon WIB, Yohanes performed well as soon as the match started, leading 4-1. However, he faced fierce resistance from Jason who was able to get close at 3-4 and 5-6.
However, the Red and White representative managed to find his best touch again and pulled away at 11-6 during the first game interval. He continued to maintain his lead until he reached scores of 16-12 and 19-16.
Unfortunately, Yohanes was careless at critical points and actually made several mistakes himself. As a result, Jason equalized the score at 19-19 and even succeeded in winning the first game with a score of 22-20.
In the second game, Yohanes again played brilliantly with his attacking game. As a result, he was able to take a long lead with scores of 9-1 and 11-3 at the interval.
However, again his performance declined after the interval until Jason was able to cut his deficit to 8-11 and 11-13. In fact, in the end the Lion Country player was able to equalize the score at 15-15.
However, after fighting fiercely until the score was 18-18, Yohanes was able to secure the second game with a score of 21-18.
In the deciding game, a fierce battle took place between the two players, where they chased each other’s points until they reached a score of 8-8. After that, Yohanes was able to take the lead and walk away at 12-8.
