GUWAHATI – Two Indonesian mixed doubles, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja and Amri Syahnawi/Winny Oktavina Kandow failed to advance to the semifinals of the Guwahati Masters 2023. They were defeated by their respective opponents in the quarter-final phase.
Dejan/Gloria lost to the Danish duo, Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch. They lost two straight games with a score of 18-21 and 12-21 in 32 minutes. With these results, Vestergaard/Busch will face the winner of the Malaysian Derby match between Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See and Choong Hon Jian/Go Pei Kee.
Playing at the Saru Sajai Indoor Sports Complex, Guwahati, India, Friday (8/12/2023) afternoon WIB, Dejan/Gloria started the match very confidently. They immediately stepped on the gas to attack and led 6-1.
Unfortunately, the performance of the world number 16 pair declined, even though they still continued to lead at 8-5 and 12-9. In the end, Vestergaard/Busch equalized the score at 12-12 and 14-14, because Dejan/Gloria often made their own mistakes.
In fact, the Danish pair continued to dominate the game at critical points until they were able to take the lead 18-14. Dejan/Gloria seemed unable to escape the opponent’s pressure, and ultimately lost with a score of 18-21 in the first game.
In the second game, the PB Djarum pair continued to be carried away by their opponents’ playing patterns. As a result, they were far behind from the start at 1-7. However, slowly Dejan/Gloria were able to develop their game and cut their deficit to 8-10. Unfortunately, they again made a lot of their own mistakes so they were again far behind at 9-14.
Vestergaard/Busch increasingly had the upper hand and were comfortable launching hard smash attacks on Dejan/Gloria. They also easily gained point by point to seal victory in the second game with a score of 21-12.
In another match played simultaneously, Amri/Winny were also blocked by the home pair, Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto. They lost two straight games with a score of 16-21 and 17-21 in 38 minutes.
Amry/Winny’s defeat meant that Indonesia’s mixed doubles finished in this Super 100 badminton tournament. Meanwhile, Kapila/Crasto advanced to the semifinals to face the winner of the match between the second seeds from Singapore, Hee Yong Kai Terry/Tan Wei Han Jessica and the home duo, Astith Surya/Amrutha Pramuthesh.
