MANCHESTER – Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay looked stunning with the brace he scored against Chelsea. The coach, Erik ten Hag, said that the Scottish player could have scored a hat trick or more goals.
Manchester United successfully recovered from adversity when they managed to beat Chelsea with a narrow score of 2-1. Playing at Old Trafford, Manchester, Thursday (7/12/2023) early morning WIB, the Red Devils scored two goals from Scott McTominay (19′ & 69′), while Chelsea equalized via Cole Palmer (45′).
After the match, Ten Hag praised McTominay’s performance. In fact, according to him, McTominay could have scored more than two goals.
“He did great. He has an important role to play. He is a very good player. He stopped Chelsea with Antony,” said Ten Hag as quoted by the BBC, Thursday (7/12/2023).
“In possession of the ball he is very dynamic. He scored 2 goals, and should be able to score more goals,” he continued.
Even though he plays as a defensive midfielder, McTominay does have quite good goal scoring instincts. It is recorded that he has scored 6 goals in 16 appearances with MU in all competitions.
Talking about the match, Ten Hag said MU really deserved to win. The Dutch coach said that the game against Chelsea was the original character of the team nicknamed the Red Devils.
“I always have complaints but we are happy with the result and our performance. We deserved it,” said Ten Hag.
“We want to convey this message to the audience but this is also our style. In the first 30 minutes we did it perfectly on the field,” added the former Ajax Amsterdam tactician.
“We killed it. We have steps to do. We are going in the right direction. This team will be good and this project will be good,” he concluded.
Even though they succeeded in winning, MU certainly cannot be complacent. The reason is, they are still stuck in 6th place in the 2023-2024 Premier League standings with 27 points from 15 matches.
