MAKASSAR – Edward (DKI Jakarta) managed to become champion after overthrowing top seed Ismail Kadir with a score of 8-9, at the Labewa Cue Sports Makassar arena, Thursday (7/12/2023).
Edward’s victory was not easy, even though at the start of the match he was far ahead of Ismail 2-7 to 3-8, however, Ismail managed to catch up and equalize the score at 8-8.
This condition created a tense atmosphere in the arena, because Ismail managed to press in the last round, but unfortunately he made a mistake which benefited Edward.
As if he had a windfall, Edward crushed the remaining 4 billiard balls, leading him to become champion for the final series of POBSI Pool Circuit Series VI 2023 Makassar, greeted by the roar of the audience at Labewa Cue Sports, Jalan Hertasning.
Edward also admitted that he was happy to have won the tournament, especially since it was his first title for the Circuit event which was the final series in Makassar.
“Of course I am very happy to be champion, especially being able to beat Kak Ismail, who was the favorite to become champion,” he said after the match.
However, he admitted that he was worried because the opponent continued to chase until he equalized the score. “But at that time I was still optimistic that it would be possible,” he said.
He also admitted that he would continue to train more optimally for future events, including welcoming the international event which will be held next January.
Meanwhile, Ismail Kadir admitted that he was disappointed because he made a mistake at a crucial time which was exploited by the opponent. However, I am grateful for the results.
“Earlier, I just kept beating my head and being optimistic, but it turns out the results are different, what is certain is that we only try hard and the determinant is above. Yes, it’s not luck and it’s the maximum,” he told MPI.
Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta POBSI Achievement Development Division, Ishwara Adi, also admitted that he was happy with the results achieved by his students.
“Of course we are very happy because we won, and this will be a provision for the future and we will train again to take part in future national and international events,” he said.
