David Benavidez Defeats Jermall Charlo, Abel Sanchez: He’s Too Heavy/Boxing Scene
Undefeated boxer David Benavidez is too much for Jermall Charlo, the WBC middleweight champion, according to Abel Sanchez. He said this because he knows David Benavidez better than most people.
When he was 16, Benavidez went to Sanchez’s now-sold gym, Big Bear, and trained with Gennadiy Golovkin. At that time, Golovkin was already an experienced professional boxer, a world champion, and a fierce fighter. Usually, the former unified world middleweight champion will handle his opponents with ease. However, in Benavidez’s case, he survived on his own terms.
Sanchez saw something special in Benavidez and so far, he’s been right. Recently, he achieved the biggest win of his career. Demetrius Andrade, last Saturday night, walked to the ring feeling as energetic and confident as ever.
About 18 minutes later, he had a worried look on his face and blood dripping from his mouth. As he sat on his stool, his eyes puffy and barely able to see, Andrade remained there, unable to bring himself to fight again.
Now, Benavidez hopes that Canelo Alvarez will pick up the phone and call him. If not, Jermall Charlo could be the next best option. The tough middleweight belt holder ended his 30-month hiatus on the Benavidez vs Andrade undercard with a unanimous decision win over Jose Benavidez Jr. who was David’s older brother.
It’s all hypothetical and wishful thinking at this point, but Sanchez wouldn’t mind seeing it. In terms of how this fight will go, Sanchez has a lot of respect for Charlo. He considers him a great fighter and one of the best boxers in the world.
However, Sanchez does not like to be dishonest. This means he didn’t give Charlo a chance to really disappoint. “I think so,” Sanchez told Fight Hub TV in a recent interview when asked if Benavidez would beat Charlo. “I think it’s three or four rounds more than the fight with Demetrius, but I think David is too much for Jermall.”
