Suara.com – Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, believes that corruptors should not be sentenced to death. However, he hopes that there will be a perfect legal system so that there will be no mistakes in determining punishment.
“As long as our law enforcement system is not perfect, do not apply the death penalty. Because when a mistake occurs, it is difficult to correct it,” he said at the 3rd MUI Mukernas event in Ancol, North Newsdelivers.com, Saturday (2/12/2023) evening.
He continued, if a corrupt person has been sentenced to death, then new evidence is found that shows the perpetrator was someone else, it is difficult to reverse the decision.
“How are we going to bring it back? It’s impossible. That’s why I say we have to be careful. Because there is room for error,” he said.
According to Anies Baswedan, it is better to pass the Asset Confiscation Law for corruptors immediately rather than the death penalty. The reason is because corruptors tend to be very afraid when faced with the possibility of losing their assets.
“It is very important to immediately pass the Asset Confiscation Law by the state,” said the Cak Imin couple.
“Corruptors are most afraid of experiencing poverty,” he added.
