WBC middleweight boxing world champion Jermall Charlo’s comeback is stronger and promises to provide more fights in 2024. Jermall Charlo provided early evidence of his return to the boxing ring by defeating Jose Benavidez Jr.
In a super middleweight contest, Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) performed well in winning a dominant ten-round unanimous decision over Jose Benavidez (28-3-1, 19 KOs). The scores were 98-92, 99-91 and 100-90.
Jermall Charlo, who currently holds the WBC middleweight title, is fighting for the first time since June 2021, when he won a 12-round unanimous decision over Juan Macias Montiel. Charlo, the bigger of the two twins, deals with personal issues, injuries and mental health issues.
Now that he’s back in the ring, Charlo wants to be even busier in the new year. After falling short of 163 kilograms on Friday, it remains to be seen whether he will drop back down to middleweight.
“I’ll come back stronger, just knowing that. I think about everything I’ve been through in each round. God protect me,” said Charlo.
Charlo also did not forget to appreciate the WBC for giving him the opportunity to fight even though he was absent for 30 months due to injury. “I really want to thank the WBC for standing with me and going through what I went through with me, Mauricio (Sulaiman) and the whole team. I want to thank everyone who never left my side. I want to thank to Al Haymon for understanding me,” he said.
”I know when you’re a man, it’s hard to explain to someone what you’re fighting for, but I’m happy that I’ve gone through what I’ve gone through because I’ve shown myself that anything can be done. And that’s what happened. This division here (is the most convenient for me). Whatever division I’m in, I’ll conquer them all.”
