RIO DE JANEIRO – Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has given a signal that he will leave La Albiceleste – the nickname of the Argentine national team. He also admitted that he would immediately discuss his future with the President of the Argentine Football Federation (AFA), Claudio Fabian Tapia and the players.
Argentina managed to achieve a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the sixth match of the 2026 World Cup Qualification for the South American zone or CONMEBOL at the Maracana Stadium, Wednesday (22/11/2023). Nicolas Otamendi (63′) was the winner for La Albiceleste.
The victory over Brazil made Argentina lead the CONMEBOL standings with 15 points. Meanwhile Brazil is in sixth position with seven points.
Meanwhile, after the match, Lionel Scaloni surprisingly gave a signal that he would leave the coaching chair of the Argentine National Team. He admitted that he was already thinking about his future with La Albiceleste
“One important thing I want to say is to stop football. I have thought a lot about the current situation,” said Lionel Scaloni, quoted from Tyc Sports, Wednesday (22/11/2023).
“These players have given me a lot to the whole training staff and I need to think. I need to think a lot about what I’m going to do,” he said.
Lionel Scaloni said he would discuss his future as coach of the Argentine national team with Claudio Fabian Tapia and all the players. According to him, the Argentine national team needs a coach who can give all his best abilities.
“These are not farewell words or anything like that, but I need to think, because the standard is very high and it is difficult to continue. It’s time to think this time, I will tell the President (Claudio Fabian Tapia), later I will convey it to the players because of the National Team “This requires a coach who has maximum energy and is in good condition,” he explained.
Lionel Scaloni has served as coach of the Argentine national team since August 2018. The 45 year old coach still has a contract until the end of December 2026.
