JAKARTA – Instagram is one of the social media that many people use. Through the free Instagram application, people can connect and get information and inspiration. For some people, this platform is also used as a marketing opportunity.
There are at least more than 1 billion monthly active Instagram user accounts worldwide. This makes Instagram, apart from being popular, also a big target for cybercriminals who want to hack user accounts. So, how do we check if our Instagram has been hacked or not?
To avoid cybercrime, here are several ways to check if Instagram has been hacked:
1. Password or Account Information Changed
Passwords or account information may change without our knowledge. If we as account owners cannot log in to our account because we have changed our password or account information, even though we have not changed it, then this is a sign that our account was accessed by another irresponsible party.
2. There is Unusual Activity
Another way to check if our Instagram account has been hacked is to see if there is any unusual activity on our account. For example, there are uploads or comments that we did not make, or our account follows unknown accounts. If that happens, then our account may be hacked.
3. Receiving Unknown Messages or Emails
If we receive a message or email from Instagram, such as a request to change our password, even though we didn’t ask for it, we need to be alert. Because, this is a sign of suspicious activity on our Instagram account.
4. Settings Changed
Check your Instagram account settings, including the associated email or telephone number. If there are changes that we didn’t make ourselves, it is a sign that our Instagram account has been hacked.
5. Cannot Access Account
If we don’t make changes to access our account, but suddenly we can’t access our own account, this is certainly suspicious. This is a sign that someone has accessed our account.
6. Unknown Login Activity
If we pay attention, Instagram often provides notifications to users when there is unusual login activity. Don’t ignore it, because it is a reminder for us to immediately check account security.
If you suspect that your Instagram account has been accessed by another party without permission, the first thing you can do is take back control of the account. Change your password immediately and follow the recovery steps provided by Instagram. Additionally, to obtain further assistance, you can contact Instagram customer support if necessary.
