MANILA – The Indonesian national team trailed 0-1 to hosts the Philippines in the first round of the second Group F match of the second round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone. The match took place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, Manila, Tuesday (21/11/2023) afternoon WIB.
The Course of the First Half Match
Appearing in front of their own fans made the Philippines play attacking in the first 5 minutes of the first half, but they were still unable to penetrate the tight defense of the Indonesian national team.
Through a quick counter-attack scheme, the Philippines almost opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Patrick Reichelt’s shot from outside the penalty box went wide of Ernando Ari’s goal.
Elkan Baggott made a mistake by making the ball almost go into the Indonesian national team’s goal in the 12th minute, but Ernando Ari swiftly managed to parry the ball and gave the Philippines a corner kick. Ernando Ari made another save after saving Jesse Curran and Manuel Ott’s kick in the 20th minute.
A fatal mistake made by the Indonesian national team’s defense allowed the Philippines to gain the lead in the 23rd minute after Patick Reichelt’s kick was not saved by Ernando Ari.
In the 30th minute, the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, withdrew Sandy Walsh to be replaced by Witan Sulaeman.
Rafael Struick almost brought the Indonesian national team to equalize the score in the 34th minute, but his shot went wide to the left side of the Philippines goal. Meanwhile, in the 40th minute, Jose Porteria almost doubled the Philippines’ lead, but his shot went wide to the left of Ernando Ari’s goal.
