The Philippines is considered to have two advantages to beat the Indonesian National Team on the second matchday of Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone. The match is scheduled to take place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, Tuesday (21/11/2023).
This was an interesting match considering that the Philippines and the Indonesian national team both failed to pick up points in the opening match of Group F. The team nicknamed the Azkals lost 0-2 against Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian national team was humiliated by Iraq with a landslide score of 1-5. Even though they both suffered defeats, coach Michael Weiss said that the Philippines had the opportunity to win when they faced the Garuda Squad.
The reason is, there are two benefits that the Philippines gets. First, the Indonesian national team was exhausted because they had to travel a long way from Basra to Manila.
“In the next match against Indonesia, maybe we will be a little more adventurous. Indonesia had to move from Iraq to here, it was more difficult for them because the journey was tiring,” said Michael Weiss, quoted from The Thao Van Hoa, Saturday (18/11/2023).
The second advantage claimed by Weiss is that the Indonesian national team is not used to playing on synthetic grass. These two things will be used as capital to win the first three points in Group F.
“It’s also difficult for them to play on synthetic pitches and we are used to that,” he explained.
Reflecting on the last meeting between the Indonesian National Team and the Philippines in the 2023 AFF Cup which took place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, (2/1/2023). The Garuda squad beat the Philippines with a score of 2-1.
