KUMAMOTO – The Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari were forced to surrender to the fourth seed from South Korea, Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung in the round of 16 of the Kumamoto Japan Masters 2023. They lost two straight games to the 2023 World Champions with a score of 16-21 and 22-24 in 43 minutes.
With these results, Rinov/Pitha’s journey in the Super 500 badminton tournament has ended. Meanwhile, Seo/Chae advanced to the quarter-finals to face the winner of the match between the fifth seeds from China, Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin versus the host’s representatives, Hiroki Nishi/Akari Sato.
Playing at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Japan, Thursday (16/11/2023) morning WIB, Ripith — as Rinov/Pitha is known — performed well at the start of the match. They were able to pressure Seo/Chae and took the lead with a 6-2 lead and then 9-3.
However, slowly the 2023 World Champions began to recover and were able to cut their deficit to 8-9. However, Rinov/Pitha were still able to enter the first game interval first at 11-8.
Unfortunately, the Red and White pair made a lot of their own mistakes after the break. Seo/Chae also used this condition well to turn the situation around to lead 16-14.
Rinov/Pitha really had difficulty keeping up with their opponent’s game after that. Their defense is also easily penetrated by enemy attacks. As a result, they lost with a score of 16-21 in the first game.
In the second game, the pair ranked 15th in the world were able to provide fierce resistance to Seo/Chae. They were involved in buying and selling attacks until they reached a score of 5-5.
After that, Ripith was again under pressure from the opponent so he was behind 6-9 and 9-11 at the interval. However, they showed extraordinary spirit against the world number 4 duo, and were finally able to equalize the score at 12-12.
However, once again Rinov/Pitha lost focus and were carried away by the opponent’s playing pattern. As a result, Seo/Chae left them again with a 16-12 lead.
Not just giving up, Rinov/Pitha continued to try to catch up and were able to cut their deficit to 15-16. After that, the opponents pulled away again at 19-16, but they were finally able to equalize again to 19-19.
In fact, the PBSI Pelatnas duo was able to come back ahead 20-19. Unfortunately, after fighting fiercely at critical points they lost with a score of 22-24 in the second game.
