Cervical cancer is one of the most deadly types of cancer that attacks women. Therefore, to avoid the risks, there are several preventive measures that you can take early on.
Cervical cancer is a growth of cells that begins in the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that is connected to the vagina.
Most of these cancers are caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This virus is spread through anal, oral or vaginal sexual intercourse, and can cause cancer.

Most people who contract this virus do not realize that they have cervical cancer. This is because cancer growth does not occur in a short period of time, it takes quite a long time, even dozens of years later.
5 ways to prevent transmission of cervical cancer
Even though cervical cancer does not appear shortly after transmission of the HPV virus, mothers still need to take early prevention. This is because cervical cancer is still one of the highest causes of death in Indonesia.
The following are several effective efforts that mothers can take to prevent the transmission of cervical cancer.
1. Maintain cleanliness of the genital area
Poor hygiene also has an impact on cervical cancer. This is because it is mostly transmitted through sexual contact or from the skin and mucous membranes of people infected with the HPV virus.
Therefore, mothers are advised to always maintain the cleanliness of the genital area, especially after having sexual relations with a partner.
“Clean living behavior is important,” said Dr. Prima Yosephine, MKM, Director of Immunization Management at the Ministry of Health at the Media Gathering for Cervical Cancer Prevention, Tuesday (14/11/2023).
2. Carry out early detection
Carrying out regular examinations can also prevent cervical cancer in patients who have been infected with the HPV virus. The sooner the virus is seen, the mother can undergo appropriate treatment.
“Early detection (is very important), even if someone has been immunized, and someone has a family, (still) they must routinely carry out early detection to be able to assess whether they are still in a safe status, or whether there is a problem (transmission of the HPV virus). “It’s better to find it sooner, before it turns into cancer,” said Prima.
3. Avoid having casual sexual relations
Having many sexual partners puts mothers at higher risk of contracting cell phone infections. Preventing these unhealthy activities can certainly reduce the potential for contracting cervical cancer.
“Good sexual behavior is also very important. “So, don’t change sexual partners because that can reduce risk factors (cervical cancer),” said Dr. Keven Tali, Sp. OG, Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist.
4. Adopt a healthy lifestyle
The next effort you can make is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Having a weak immune system can make the body unable to fight infections. Therefore, mothers are advised to always ensure that their bodies are in good health.
“If we are healthy, our immunity is good, that is more optimal for preventing the occurrence of any disease, whatever the virus,” said Keven.
“So, a healthy lifestyle such as regular exercise, adequate rest, we definitely have to do that. Because if our immunity goes down, we easily get colds and coughs. “Well, especially if our immunity is down and our sexual behavior is not good, we could become infected with HPV,” he continued.
5. Get the HPV Vaccination
HPV immunization is an effective way to prevent cervical cancer. This vaccination can also be done on children aged 9 to 14 years.
“It is recommended that HPV immunization be given to women who are not married or not yet sexually active so that the protection works better. “However, for married women who have not been exposed to HPV, this immunization is also important, although at a different dose,” said Keven.
So, those are some efforts to prevent transmission of the HPV vaccine that you can do. Hopefully it’s useful, yes, Mother.
