“It was a difficult match. We found a way to get out of the situation, but not in a good way. I think we made things difficult for ourselves because we didn’t pass the ball (much). Burkina Faso could steal opportunities from our mistakes,” said Segares after the match.
The United States’ two goals were scored by Keyrol Figueroa and Berchimas at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso was only able to reduce the position through a chip from Jack Diarra in the 87th minute.
Segares said that his team played too much ball in their own area and were unable to escape the pressure from the Burkina Faso players.
“I think my players play the ball more in their own area. We have to be braver in playing the ball in the opponent’s area,” he explained.
Regarding the next match against France, Segares said he would give his team time to rest before starting preparations to face the team nicknamed Les Bleus.
“We will face France who are doing well. Now it’s time to rest and do our best in the next match. I want the players to get more experience like this. This situation will make them develop more in the future,” said Segares.
Currently, the team nicknamed Baby Nats has a big chance of locking up a ticket to the round of 16 after picking up six points from two matches. However, the United States will still face tough opponents France in the final Group E match which will take place on Saturday.
