FORLIMPOPOLI – Former MotoGP star, Andrea Dovizioso, gave his views regarding the arrival of Marc Marquez to the Ducati Lenovo team next season. Dovizioso stated that Francesco Bagnaia, his Ducati teammate, did not need to worry about Marquez’s presence. According to him, Bagnaia only needs to focus on himself, and trying to imitate Marquez’s racing style or motorbike settings could weaken him.
As a six-time MotoGP champion, Marc Marquez is expected to be a serious threat in the race for the title next season. However, Dovizioso warned Bagnaia not to think too much about the rivalry with Marquez.
“Bagnaia doesn’t need to think about Marquez as important. He only needs to think about himself, because if you try to imitate these great champions, what happens is they will get lost,” said Dovizioso as reported by Motosan on Wednesday (15/11/2023).
Dovizioso also used the example of Jorge Lorenzo, a two-time MotoGP champion who joined Ducati in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Even though many expected brilliant achievements, Lorenzo was only able to finish in seventh and ninth positions in the standings.
“In a way, this is similar to what happened during (Jorge) Lorenzo’s time. Jorge arrived at Ducati and thought he would dominate everything, but in the end it wasn’t like that. We’ll see, I’m curious,” added Dovizioso.
With his statement, Dovizioso wanted to convey that Bagnaia should remain focused on his own development and performance, without being too influenced or burdened by the rivalry with Marquez.
