SURABAYA – Persebaya Surabaya has not yet decided which foreign players will be released. In fact, the team nicknamed Bajol Ijo has just recruited a defender from Brazil, Yan Victor. The 28-year-old defender was plotted to accompany Dusan Stevanovic, who was considered still not strong in the first round.
Two names of Persebaya foreign players have been widely rumored to be leaving, namely strikers Paulo Victor and Ze Valente. Paulo Victor was rumored to be leaving more quickly, because the Brazilian striker’s performance was not very flashy in the first round of Liga 1 2023-2024.
From 14 appearances with 1,027 minutes played, the 29 year old striker was only able to score one goal. In the away match against Barito Putera, two foreign players, namely Paulo Victor and Ze Valente, were not included in the team. Ze Valente himself is also linked with Dewa United.
Meanwhile, Persebaya is linked with Paulo Henrique, who will be used as a replacement for Paulo Victor. The former Persiraja Banda Aceh striker has indeed attracted the hearts of Bajul Ijo’s management, because of his performance while defending Persiraja despite having a history of hamstring injuries.
Meanwhile, for local players, Persebaya has loaned five players, namely Brylian Aldama to PSCS Cilacap, Nuri Fasya on loan to Persik Kediri, Risky Dwiyan to Persiba Balikpapan, Denny Agus to Deltras Sidoarjo and Ferdinand Sinaga to Persiraja Banda Aceh. Another name, Yohanes Kandaimu, joined PSPS Pekanbaru.
Persebaya Surabaya Operations Director, Chandra Wahyudi, said that management would evaluate 10-12 players ahead of the second round of League 1. This evaluation was carried out in order to improve their position in the temporary standings, which has now fallen to 13th position in the standings.
“There’s a process for all of this, it’s not just that two players come in and then the player who leaves has to be announced straight away,” said Candra Wahyudi when confirmed on Tuesday (14/11/2023).
According to him, there is a process for evaluating and announcing players. He emphasized that players who leave do not have to have their contracts terminated, because there is a loan option. This is what Chandra considers to be the management’s most preferred option.
“There are lots of choices. All options are there, like local players too, some have their contracts terminated according to the agreement, some are loaned and so on,” he concluded.
