SOLO – Amirbek Saidov performed brilliantly and emerged as the best player after leading Uzbekistan U-17 to a convincing victory over Canada U-17. The match took place at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Monday (13/11/2023), where the striker scored two goals.
The first goal for Uzbekistan U-17 was created through Richard Chukwu’s own goal (22′ minute). Meanwhile, Saidov scored the other two goals in the 24th and 80th minutes.
Saidov’s first goal became controversial because it was deemed to be in an offside position. However, after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Saidov’s goal was finally approved.
In the 81st minute, Saidov managed to catch a long ball from goalkeeper Muhammadyusuf Sobirov’s pass. Canada U-17 goalkeeper, Nathaniel Abraham, was out of position to anticipate the ball, but Saidov cleverly took advantage of the situation and scored into an empty net.
Saidov’s brilliant performance in this match also set a new record for Uzbek football. This victory was Uzbekistan U-17’s first victory in the U-17 World Cup since the 2013 edition.
In the 2013 edition in the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan U-17 only managed to reach the round of 16 by packing two wins and one draw during the group stage. After that, Uzbekistan U-17 never qualified for the U-17 World Cup, so their participation in this year’s edition was the first since 2013.
With this victory, Uzbekistan U-17 still has a chance to advance to the last 16 of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. They are currently ranked third in Group B with a collection of three points from two matches, the same number as Mali. U-17.
