Thousands of mostly young protesters took to the streets of Washington on Saturday (4/11) to protest President Joe Biden’s administration’s support for Israel, while Israel’s military campaign in Gaza continues.
Protesters chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” a slogan used by Palestinians, which refers to the area west of the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.
Waving Palestinian flags and holding posters calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the protesters walked along Pennsylvania Avenue, the street leading to the White House.
“This has been one of the most difficult months of my life, and I am of the post-Oslo generation. This has been one of the most difficult months in history for our nation. And we here know that we have a deep belief that Palestine will be free during our lifetime,” said a protester from the Palestinian youth movement, Nadya Tannous.
He referred to the Oslo Accords signed by Israeli and Palestinian leaders in an effort to create peace in 1993 and 1995.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, the death toll of Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas conflict has exceeded 9,400. (lt/rd)
