Tyson Fury was labeled as fighting dirty by using his elbows during his controversial win over Francis Ngannou last weekend. The Gypsy King Tyson Fury landed a hard elbow on the former UFC heavyweight champion.
The WBC king maintained his undisputed fight against Oleksandr Usyk with a narrow points win over the former UFC heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia last weekend. Fury, 35, was knocked down by the upstart in the third round, which SunSport said earned him the biggest payoff of his career.
The second thing that became the topic of discussion that night was Fury’s elbow which landed right on the forehead of MMA fighter, Francis Ngannou, in the sixth round. Some fight fans were stunned by Fury’s landing of the illegal blow, but not Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott.
He told ESNews: “Elie Seckbach, a good friend of mine, has been saying for years what Tyson Fury showed that night.” Elie has been saying for years that Tyson Fury is dirty. “Now the world saw him throw elbows deliberately at Francis Ngannou, all that (leaning and pushing).”
Scott’s sentiments were echoed by Hall of Fame promoter Lou DiBella, who wrote on Twitter: “Strike, well timed, big elbow to the forehead. “Dirty strike. Francis was undeterred. The man has a chin.”
Ngannou himself called the strike illegal after watching back his incredible performance. Along with footage of the incident, he wrote in X: “Unlike Superman’s punch, this is highly illegal.”
Fury was set to face Usyk in a long-delayed unification bout on December 23, before he was humiliated by Ngannou. But their fight – which Fury refused to comment on after the fight – has been postponed until February.
