WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol praised undisputed welterweight king Terence Crawford as a boxer who is not just good but extraordinary. And, it’s not every day that Dmitry Bivol heaps so much praise on one of his contemporaries. But in Crawford’s case, Bivol couldn’t help himself. “Crawford is incredible,” Bivol told Matchroom Boxing in a recent interview. “Not just good, he’s amazing.”
The superlatives used to describe Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) are not enough for Dmitry Bivol. For a long time, the WBA light heavyweight champion always knew how talented the pound-for-pound star was, but after his last fight, Bivol has taken it to another level.
Just a few months ago, on July 29th, Crawford stood across the ring against Errol Spence Jr. In the eyes of many people, this match is the biggest fight in approximately half a century. In terms of who is superior, if you ask 100 different people, you will likely get 100 different answers.
In the end, even though almost everyone expected a drawn-out fight, Crawford dominated. Outside of a fairly even first round, Spence had no answers, so Crawford won via stoppage in the subsequent rounds.
Achieving perfection is basically impossible. But actually, from Bivol’s point of view, that’s what Crawford is, a flawless fighter. For young boxers who are putting on boxing gloves for the first time in their lives, or for those who want to improve their skills, Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) believes that Crawford is the only boxer to emulate. “I think he should be a reference for learning boxing. He is a very good fighter.”
