RENNES – Indonesian women’s doubles badminton players, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, managed to beat fourth seeds, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota from Japan in the quarter-finals of the 2023 French Open. They admitted that they were not thinking about bad memories when they had to withdraw from the 2022 Asian Games.
As is known, Apriyani/Fadia had to withdraw from the 2022 Asian Games when facing the Japanese pair. This was due to the injury suffered by Apriyani while the match was still in progress.
These bad memories did not make them panic when they met again in the quarter-finals of the French Open 2023. Apriyani/Fadia also succeeded in winning 21-16, 21-19 in the match which was held at the Glaz Arena, Rennes, France, Friday (27/10/2023) afternoon WIB.
“I didn’t think about what happened at the Asian Games yesterday when I had to withdraw against them,” said Apriyani in an official PBSI statement, Friday (27/10/2023).
“I told Fadia to play normally because I came here to compete to win and thank God my leg strength has returned to better,” he added.
In line with his partner, Fadia also said that in this match they appeared more prepared than before. The strategy that was implemented before the match was successfully implemented.
“We have met often and today we feel we are better prepared, we know what pattern we have to play, and we can apply that more diligently,” said Fadia.
“At the end of the second game we communicated a lot about playing more patiently because they were starting to get closer and it became more difficult for us to get points,” he added.
In the semifinals, Apriyani/Fadia will face Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning. The Chinese pair qualified for the last four after overthrowing Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida (Japan) in the round of 16.
