RENNES – The women’s doubles badminton team, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, successfully advanced to the last 16 of the French Open 2023 after sending home their compatriots, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi. In the match at Glarz Arena, Rennes, France, Tuesday (24/10/2023) evening, Apriyani/Fadia won with a score of 21-16, 21-18.
This victory apparently left a story of its own for Apriyani. The reason was, he had to use Fadia’s match equipment, after his suitcase arrived late at Rennes.
Before flying to Rennes, Apriyani received information that her two suitcases would leave directly in Rennes. “When I arrived in Rennes on Sunday (22/10/2023), I only had one of my suitcases come, and even that was a suitcase that did not contain my sparring equipment,” he explained, as quoted from the uploaded statement on the Instagram account @badminton.ina, Wednesday ( 10/25/2023).
Because she felt that her suitcase had not yet arrived, Apriyani finally took the initiative to report it to the airline that took her to Rennes, and was informed that her suitcase was delayed. How surprised Apriyani was when she found out that a number of players from other countries were also experiencing similar problems.
“After reporting to the airline, it was confirmed that my suitcase had arrived late. It turned out that not only me but also several players from Chinese Taipei and Thailand also experienced the same thing,” he said.
With the match schedule already tight, Apriyani then decided to use all of Fadia’s match equipment.
“So today I borrowed all my match equipment from Fadia, from shoes, match clothes to rackets. Luckily we are the same size,” said Apriyani.
“The latest information is that my suitcase is already at Rennes airport and this afternoon (Tuesday, 24/20/2023) it will be delivered to the hotel,” he concluded.
