WA – Social media X, formerly known as Twitter, will have two new premium service options. This was recently revealed by the platform owner, Elon Musk.
“One is lower cost with all the features, but no reduced ads, and the other is more expensive, but no ads,” the billionaire said in a post on X.
Reporting from the BBC, Monday (23/10/2023), this happened when the company started charging $1 (Rp. 15 thousand) to users in New Zealand and the Philippines to access the platform.
Musk did not provide further details regarding the plan. What is clear is that new users who choose not to subscribe will only be able to use a few features.
They can only perform “read-only” actions, such as reading posts, watching videos and following accounts, the company said on its website.
For your information, Musk himself has long said that his solution to eliminating bots and fake accounts on social media platforms is to charge for services.
Since taking over the company in October last year, he has sought to incentivize users to pay for the upgraded service, now called X Premium.
Some users now choose to pay USD 8 (Rp. 127 thousand) per month for the blue check subscription service. Musk then didn’t forget to woo advertisers back to X by offering discounts.
Other big tech companies have also experimented with combined ad-supported and subscription plans.
While Alphabet’s YouTube has both paid and free ad-supported services, Netflix’s ad-supported plans also come at a cost, albeit at a lower price.
YouTube, like X is filled with content from users, shares a portion of its subscription revenue with content creators.
X, which also divides some of his advertising income with content makers, does not reveal whether the content maker will be paid in advertising free subscription models.
