Princess Diana became one of the famous fashion icons in the 80s. Apart from her fashionable dressing style, this mother of two is also known for her distinctive short blonde hair style and is always neat.
On various occasions, Princess Diana never let her short hair get messy because it was blowing in the wind. The ex-wife of King Charles III apparently has a secret for keeping her hair neat even when blown by helicopter winds.
According to reports, Princess Diana had hairspray made especially for her whenever she had to fly in a helicopter. This hairspray was specially created by beauty roots Sheree Ladove Funsch and hairstylist Sam McKnight at the request of Princess Diana.

“I was actually a cosmetic chemist. I had a reputation for creating products that could meet the needs of celebrities. Then, I got the call, and Princess Diana needed it (Funsch’s skills). So at that time, I worked very closely with her and her hairdresser ( McKnight),” Funsch told the New York Post in a Page Six column, reported by the NZ Herald.
“She (Princess Diana) had a very beautiful (pixie) haircut. When she got off the helicopter, her haircut would be messy, and her beautifully styled hair would be damaged,” he continued.
Special formula for Princess Diana hairspray helicopter
Funsch said that Princess Diana wanted a special formula that could keep her haircut elegant without making it look stiff.
“She didn’t want anything to make her hair look stiff because she was still very young and beautiful. She didn’t want to look old and like she was wearing a helmet. So I created a hairspray called ‘helicopter hairspray,” said Funsch.
Quoted from Town and Country, Funsch made Princess Diana’s special hairspray by doing research. He made several international trips to explore forests and places to find exotic ingredients suitable for the Princess’s hair. Funsch also discovered rubber sap (resin) from trees which was then used as the main ingredient for making hairspray, Mother.
“We found this resin from trees and that’s how we made this formula (Princess Diana’s hairspray),” said Funsch.
“I was literally in the lab making the formulation myself, figuring out what the melting point of this resin is, how do you make it not gooey and tacky? How do you keep it from hardening?” he continued.
Princess Diana’s hairspray was very popular with Funsch. But, Funsch’s work is not finished. Princess Diana again asked him to make another type of hairspray. This time, Princess Diana wanted her hair to not be messy when wearing a crown.
So what is this type of hairspray like?
