LONDON – Mikael Lawal was forced to hand over the BBBofC British cruiserweight championship belt to Isaac Chamberlain. Yes, Lawal suffered a defeat on points in the duel which was also for the vacant Commonwealth title.
Chamberlain chose to fight smartly, because Lawal was a boxer with a very strong punch. The fighting contest which took place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, Saturday (22/10/2023) evening local time, ended with points 119-111, 118-111 and 118-111 in favor of Chamberlain.
For Chamberlain, this victory over Lawal was one of the best moments in his career. “I didn’t have the best amateur career, I had 9 fights, they threw me into the abyss and I kept going,” said Chamberlain, after the match, as quoted by Sky Sports, Sunday (22/10/2023).
“When I was young, I had low self-esteem, but I said that I believed in my abilities. Even though I had doubts before this fight, I said ‘now or never’. I am very grateful,” he said.
With this additional victory, Chamberlain also improved his professional fighting record to 16-2 (8KOs). Meanwhile, in another corner, Lawal not only lost the BBBofC British title, but also recorded his first professional defeat. Now, the 28 year old boxer has a record of 17-1 (11KO).

In another match, Louis Greene (16-4, 10KO) also lost his Commonwealth super welterweight belt after suffering a points defeat to Sam Gilley (17-1, 8KO).
Young boxer Michael Hennessy Jr (11-2-1, 2KO) suffered a points defeat to Joe Laws (14-2, 5KO) in an 8 round super middleweight duel.
Meanwhile, female boxer Karriss Artingstall (5-0, 1KO) recorded her fifth professional win, after stopping Vanessa Bradford (7-5-2, 0KO) in the second round.
