Suara.com – The Indonesian Ministry of Health has again confirmed the existence of a positive case of monkeypox, aka monkey pox, in Newsdelivers.com on October 14 2023. Based on information from the Director of Health Surveillance and Quarantine, dr. Achmad Farchanny Tri Adryanto, MKM, currently in Indonesia has been confirmed positive for 7 cases of monkey pox.
Previously, only 1 case of monkey pox was confirmed in August 2022. However, on October 12, there was a suspicious case of suspected monkey pox. After the test was carried out, it turned out to be a positive confirmation, increasing to 7 cases now.
“20 August 2022 1 case, until 12 October 2023, the community health center in DKI found a suspicious case and then followed up with specimen collection. “On October 13 afternoon the results were positive for monkeypox,” said Dr. Farchanny in the Monkeypox Case Handling Preparedness webinar, Sunday (22/10/2023).
“Since then, until October 21, there have been 7 positive cases, 3 suspects, 1 probable, 1 discarded or negative,” he continued.
Because of this positive case, the public must be alert and recognize the transmission and symptoms of monkey pox. Dermatovenerology and aesthetics specialist, dr. Ni Luh Putu Pitawati, Sp.KK explained that this monkey method of transmission usually occurs through skin contact and sexual intercourse.

“Monkeypox spreads through direct skin-to-skin or membrane-to-membrane contact, including during sex, such as when kissing, touching, oral sex or penetration,” said Dr. Putu.
Transmission can also occur through the placenta from mother to fetus. This causes children born to be infected with monkey pox.
Meanwhile, transmission itself usually occurs some time after contact. If infected there will be several symptoms in the acute phase and eruption. Here are some symptoms that may arise.
1. Acute phase
The phase usually lasts around 0-5 days. In this condition, patients will experience various symptoms including:
FeverHeadacheLymphadenopathy or swollen lymph nodesBack painMuscle painContinuous fatigueRespiratory problems, ranging from sore throat, stuffy nose to coughing.
2. Eruption phase
In the eruption phase, it usually lasts around 1-3 days. This condition will cause various symptoms including:
A rash or lesion appears on the skin. The lesion changes to the stage of macular, papule, vesicle, pustules, crusting, and even falling out. The condition of this lesion will last and disappear in about 3 weeks.
The lesions that appear can also appear in several areas such as the mouth, hands, feet, face, even the penis and anus. Therefore, everyone must be alert if they experience symptoms of monkey pox.
