BANDAR SRI BEGAWAN – Shin Tae-yong emphasized that Brunei Darussalam football has the potential to rise to another level. However, football there must be supported by various adequate facilities.
“If good infrastructure is formed, Brunei football will definitely have hope of developing in the future,” said Shin Tae-yong.
He made this statement after Shin Tae-yong led the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone after winning 6-0 in the second leg (12-0 aggregate) over Brunei, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
Shin Tae-yong said he couldn’t comment much regarding Brunei Darussalam’s performance in that match. This was to respect the opposing team’s players even though they suffered a crushing defeat to the Indonesian National Team.
“Indeed, Brunei Darussalam is our opposing team. So, I can’t judge anything about Brunei Darussalam,” said Shin Tae-yong.
In the second round, the Indonesian National Team will be in Group F with Vietnam, the Philippines and Iraq. The match is scheduled to take place from 15 November 2023 to 11 June 2024, using a home and away system and the winner and runner up will be selected to qualify for the third round.
