The head para-athletics coach, Slamet Widodo, said that all athletes are now 100 percent ready to face AiPG Hangzhou 2022. Currently, training is focused on maintaining performance and increasing the athletes’ motivation and enthusiasm ahead of the competition.
“Thank God, the Indonesian para-athletics team is in good health. Today’s training is to try out the track and venue as well as finalize orientation. We are scheduled to practice every morning and will maximize this opportunity to perfect the athlete’s performance,” explained Slamet after training, Wednesday (18/10 /2023).
“Our evaluation is the same as normal training, but when we approach a competition atmosphere like this, we have to improve the athlete’s mentality, motivation and enthusiasm. We have been thoroughly prepared technically and physically since we were in Solo,” he continued.
The Indonesian para-athletics team is targeted to bring home 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. Saptoyogo Purnomo is expected to win two gold medals in the men’s 100m T37 and men’s 200m T37.
Another gold medal is expected to come from Karisma Evi Tiarani who will compete in the women’s 100m T63. Then, another gold medal was targeted at Suparni Yati who will compete in the F20 women’s shot put.
This target, according to Slamet, is the result of the coach’s analysis of the athletes’ achievement records in a number of championships and qualifications that have been participated in so far.
“Based on records of achievements and achievements, we compare them with the achievements of competitors from other countries, by looking at rankings on websites and international championships. Para-athletics is a measurable sport so we can see the achievements of opponents and then analyze them so that targets are set for the athlete. ” explained Slamet.
