MOSCOW – Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has activated all missile launchers on ships not involved in the midst of the war in Ukraine. The ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are equipped with a variety of missiles that serve different operational purposes.
One type of missile that is usually loaded into a missile launcher is the Kalibr cruise missile which can be launched from surface ships or submarines. These missiles are capable of attacking targets on land and at sea with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.
Quoted from the Bulgarian Military page, Tuesday (17/10/2023), another type of missile found on the Russian ship’s missile launcher in the Black Sea Fleet was the Oniks supersonic anti-ship missile. This missile is designed to target enemy ships and has a range of approximately 500 kilometers.
The Oniks missile is capable of delivering a powerful warhead to neutralize enemy ships and is an important component of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s offensive capabilities. In addition to Kalibr and Oniks missiles, Russian Black Sea Fleet ships also carry Shtil-1 medium-range surface-to-air missiles.
These missiles are primarily used for air defense purposes, providing protection against enemy aircraft and incoming missiles. The Shtil-1 missile has a range of up to 50 kilometers.
“In addition, Russian Black Sea Fleet ships are equipped with Kh-35 anti-ship missiles. “These missiles are designed to attack enemy surface ships and have a range of about 130 kilometers,” wrote Bulgarian Military.
The Kh-35 missile is known for its ability to fly at low altitudes making it difficult to detect and intercept. They are highly effective against a wide range of targets, including warships, patrol vessels, and other naval assets.
